Our opossum friend

Hey folks!

Just wanted to show you our new neighbor and some of the tropical fruits we have here (just ignore the whiskey bottle).
We discovered this cute chappy Wednesday night and it seems it likes fruits as much as we do.
Apart from that not much happened the last days.

Have a nice day!

Townsville is Queensland shark capital

According to townsvillebulletin.com is Townsville Queenslands shark capital. Twice as many sharks as in any other location in the state. This is kind of scary.
A local fisher said that we are lucky that stingers (deadly jellyfish) and crocodiles keep us out of the water because otherwise the sharks would eat us - what a crazy country...

First real Anatomy & Physiology lecture...

Okay.
So I just had my first lecture in this Anatomy & Physiology.

So besides that the teacher just summed my whole two years in high-school biology, I thought it was quite easy ;) (probably because I had it already. But I understood how logic everything actually is, so that's cool.
Now I just have to memories all the god damn Latin words!!! ;p
But I'm not freaking out that much any more, because it's just to put every Latin word in association with something on your one body and that is not so hard really =)

This is it for now =)

Semester has started

Hey folks!

The semester has started today and Karl had his first lecture. Additionally, he is now the proud owner of a huge anatomy book. Seems he is a bit worried about all the stuff in there. And after I had a look I am feeling with him ;)
I had to figure out what to do in the following two research semesters. There are sooo many exciting things to do out there and the competition is hard. But the teaching and research staff is incredibly nice and helpful and I am sure it is possible to find something this week.
Since it was a bloody hot day we went to the rockpool close to the beach. It seems this place is kind of 'little Norway' - 1 German and 1 American vs. 10 Norwegians. I think I got to know more Norwegians than Australians at the moment. I honestly considered taking Norwegian classes or at least buying a German-Norwegian dictionary.
We also went to the sport center in the evening. But I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed. They don't offer that much for the price it costs.
No pictures for the day - I am trying to improve!

Enjoy your day!

Paaaaaarty

Yesterday evening we went downtown to have some party. Flynders Street is a good place to go and you can find many beautiful things there.

After I had left a club a bouncer told me that one can’t enter a club after 3 pm - this is state law. I would love to hear a reason for that.

As a result of that, the evening ended relatively fast and we both are looking forward to have another try next weekend. We had a lot of fun and Karl probably to much beer...;)

Yesterday and today-Saturday & Sunday 20-21 feb 2010

The BBQ & pool party yesterday was okay, didn't happened so much exactly.
I (Karl) lost a "swimming contest" for some VIP ticket the full moon party in the end of march. Which was kinda embarrassing (since swimming is kinda my thing).
But me and my big pink blow-up unicorn hadn't much chance against the little shark =)

But after this we went to pick up Timothy, Hillary and Molly and went to the beach (The Strand).
We didn't take any pictures from this, but it was relaxing and fun.
As the night came along we went down town to a hostel filled with norwegian girls (wohoho =) It's weird to suddenly speak norwegian when your brain flouts in English)

Today we woke up (hangover of course) and drove out of town because we wanted to see Australia's beautiful outback.
That ended up with a quick pick at the rainforest, which was unbelievable. Special for me since I've never been outside of Europe before.

But I have a confection to make: I have always been very cooky about snakes, scorpions and so on. But they really freak me out. But I try to be as brave as I can be. But it's not that easy
when I almost stepped on a Scorpion on my way to the drive trough Liquorland.

In the middle of the Northern rainforest.

You can see the clouds in the trees

Before we are heading towards the BBQ, I wanted to give you an idea how townsville looks like: this is Townsville with the bay and Magnetic Island in the Background. It's totally cloudy, but the raining season will end soon (hopefully)

So have a nice day everybody
Flo

Our first week in Australia

Okay, so first of all we tough you all should know that since we are doing this together. everything will be in English, or most of it.

So for our first day we arrived separately at this Hostel lookalike thing.
This is how we got to know each other (and Timothy aka Justin Timberlake of Japan) since we shared the same room.

(Just a little summary for the first week, we're going to explain things further later on)

* Since that we have gotten our accommodation in order.
* We're sharing a big house with Bob from china and Per from Denmark.
* Florian has bought a car (a really nice car by the way). That's pretty awesome.
* We have gotten to know this crazy German dude (who sold us the car) who lives with his wife here in Townsville. So he showed us whats good and whats not in the grocery store.

We have met a lot of different people over the last couple of days:
Americans
Germans ( this is the list of Olympic medals, last time I checked)
Norwegians
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brazil
Australia (of course, but not that many)
Denmark
+++

And we have attended a lot of different things as well, now we're attending this barbecue pool party so take care and live strong!!!
